What can I expect from the Momentum Transfer service?

Momentum Transfer offers a mail-in service for high-quality, high-throughput synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction and scattering measurements. You mail us your samples; we perform the measurements and upload the results to your request in our secure data portal — ready for you to access, review, and download at your convenience.

To get started, you'll find a brief overview here on how to register for our service:

1. Register on the Platform
  1. Visit the Momentum Transfer platform: https://app.momentum-transfer.com
  2. Create an account if you don't have one yet
  3. Log in to your account
  4. Here you will find detailed instructions
2. Add Your Samples
  1. Navigate to the samples section
  2. Add your samples to the system
  3. Provide detailed information for each sample (chemical composition, common/IUPAC names, etc.)
  4. Provide metadata on your samples for either internal tracking or in case you are measuring FAIR data.
3. Create a Request
  1. Create a new measurement request
  2. Select the option ""I have a quote"" in the form
  3. Enter your QUOTE-ID (QUOTE-MT-2025-xxx) in the Quote-ID text field
  4. Complete all required fields in the request form
  5. Submit your request

4. Wait for Approval
  1. Your request will be reviewed to ensure the samples can be properly processed
  2. If there are any questions, a team member will contact you
  3. Once approved, you'll receive an email titled “Request Accepted”
5. Ship Your Samples
  1. Follow the shipping instructions provided in the acceptance email
  2. Use the specified shipping address
  3. If shipping from outside the EU, attach a proforma invoice (typically declaring €1 value per sample)
6. Provide Tracking Information
  1. Once your samples are dispatched, enter the tracking link in your request on the portal. This helps the team monitor the shipment and prepare for its arrival.

Once your samples arrive, they will be scheduled for measurement during the next available beamtime. You'll receive an email notification as soon as your results are ready and available in the data portal. Results are usually available within 2–3 business days after measurement, though depending on workload, it may be a bit faster or take slightly longer.
